Hi, I’m Karen!

A woman with long black hair, wearing a blue dress with white floral patterns, sitting on a beige sofa indoors, smiling at the camera.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California and Arizona, a perinatal therapist, and a mother of two. I provide trauma-informed therapy for pregnancy anxiety, postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, NICU trauma, fertility challenges, and perinatal grief. With advanced training in EMDR and trauma-focused treatment, I help parents and parents-to-be find relief, clarity, and support during some of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives.

My clinical foundation comes from more than a decade in high-acuity medical settings, including Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns and the Level IV NICU at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. I have supported families through pregnancy complications, emergency deliveries, traumatic births, infant loss, and postpartum mental health concerns. These experiences continue to shape how I show up for clients with steadiness and compassion.

I also serve as a visiting instructor for The New Mom School, where I teach about perinatal mental health, PMADs, and coping strategies for new and expecting parents.

My own pregnancies further deepened my understanding of what it means to move through challenges in pregnancy and postpartum. I experienced hyperemesis, medical uncertainty, traumatic deliveries, and postpartum preeclampsia. Living through what I once supported others through allows me to sit with clients in a more grounded and attuned way.

My approach is evidence-based, compassionate, culturally informed, and deeply validating. My goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and equipped as you move through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or parenting after trauma.

How I work

I use evidence-based, trauma-informed, heart-centered approaches that go far beyond talk therapy. Healing is not about fixing what is “wrong.” It is about helping you return to yourself with more clarity, safety, and self-compassion.

I integrate:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Used to support healing from birth trauma, NICU trauma, medical PTSD, attachment wounds, and perinatal mood disorders.

Attachment-Focused and Inner Child Work

Helpful for shifting old relational patterns that may get activated during pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting.

Somatic and Nervous System Support

Tools that help your body feel safe again so you are not relying on your mind alone.

Relational Therapy

An approach where you are held as a full person with a meaningful story, not a diagnosis

IADC (Induced After Death Communication)

A grief-healing method that can bring relief after miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, or the death of a loved one.

Who I Work Best With

I may be the right therapist for you if you see yourself in one or more of the following descriptions:

  • A high-functioning, Type A woman who has always been the one holding everything together but now feels anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure of who she is

  • Someone struggling with the deep identity shifts of motherhood and wondering how to feel like herself again

  • A medical professional or therapist who cares well for others but finds it difficult to care for herself

  • A NICU or medically complex parent whose nervous system is still in survival mode long after discharge

  • A first-generation daughter or someone from a culture where asking for help was discouraged

  • An empath or overgiver who struggles to make space for her own needs

  • A grieving parent navigating miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, or complex grief that feels invisible to others

If any of this fits, therapy can help you move toward more clarity, grounding, and self-trust.

What I Believe

Your story deserves a place where every part of it can be held with care. This includes the joyful moments and the parts that feel too tender or heavy to put into words.

  • You deserve care that honors your full experience.

  • Motherhood and partnership are not about perfection.

  • Feeling overwhelmed or uncertain does not make you less capable.

  • Healing is possible even when your life feels changed or unfamiliar.

  • Your struggles and pain are valid. You do not have to carry them alone.

  • Your identity, culture, and history matter in your healing process.

Together, we can create a space where you can explore your emotions, strengthen your resilience, and nurture your wellbeing.
